Owner-Creators — Part IX — The Luxury Hospitality Library

The purest position in the Part: the person who pays and the person who decides are the same person. No investment committee sits between the idea and the building.

That fusion produces the strongest signatures in luxury hospitality and the narrowest portfolios. Anouska Hempel, Alan Faena, Marie-Louise Sciò and Valentina De Santis are legible in their houses in a way a chief executive of a listed operator can never be. The house is not a brand expression; it is an argument its owner is making in public, at their own expense.

The group is small by nature. Personal capital limits how many houses one authorship can reach, and the moment outside capital enters in size, the entry usually belongs in Group III instead.

What the group does not settle: singular authorship is a claim about intent, not about labour. Designers, architects and general managers execute these houses, and the entries name them. Nor does it settle succession — an owner-creator's model is the hardest of all to hand on, because what is being handed on is a person.

Notes on the register. Seven groups follow the model, never the era: the axis is whose capital and whose authorship. Paired entries carry one code where authorship is genuinely joint. A closed record marks a life concluded — the code and the history stand (§11). One candidacy is suspended under §18.4.1 while its subject holds public office, its brand anchor already resident in the register. Reigning heads of state receive no entries; documented authorship is recorded in the Key People line of the house concerned.
